Adelaide Hills Farmer’s Market Producer, Paracombe Premium Perry, has taken home its third national award in 12 months.
Awarded a bronze medal for ‘The Berg’ from the 2014 Royal Adelaide Beer and Cider Awards last week, the win takes Paracombe Premium Perry’s medal tally to three in its first year of business.
And it’s not the first time ‘The Berg’ has proven fruitful for the Perry makers, also taking out a Bronze Medal in October 2013 in the Australian Cider Awards, coming equal with industry leaders Bullmers Pear Cider, James Squire Perry, Magners Pear Irish Cider and Strongbow Pear Cider.
“The Berg is a Perry that is unmatched in flavour by any producers outside of South Australia. Only grown in SA, the Lemon Bergamot Pear is a unique (and declining variety), flavoursome pear which is almost a cross between an apple and a pear in texture. Paracombe Premium Perry uses such a unique fruit, along with some of the rarest techniques in the world to produce the sweetest Perry of our range,” said Perry Maker and Director, Damian McArdle.
In February, Paracombe Premium Perry was also awarded a silver medal for their ‘Appleanche’ at the 2014 Royal Melbourne Fine Food Awards.
“It was a great to start to what’s been a great year,” said Damian.
Launched in 2012, Paracombe Premium Perry is the initiative of Damian McArdle – a fourth generation pear grower – and while it took four generations to arrive, it’s proven to be well worth the wait!
