Kenton Valley Growers

James Bishop and family produce organic fruits and vegetables on their farm at Kenton Valley. Freshly picked and bought to you at the farmers market each week.

Yerelina Organic
Organically grown veggies and fruit that is seasonal and fresh.

Also, good value home cooked fresh foods made with home grown ingredients wherever possible.

Lastly, young beef by the side or half side which is tender and tasty, though I think the lamb is even tastier, which can also be bought by the side.

Yerelina is at the market weekly, except for the Saturday before the second Sunday as Ruth organises the Meadows Country market - so if you need a Yerelina fix you can find her there.

Ashbourne Valley Orchards
Ashbourne Valley Orchards

The Boag family farm 30,000 fruit trees in Ashbourne, located between Meadows and Goolwa, on the Fleurieu Peninsula.

Our company, Ashbourne Valley Orchards has 12 hectares under permanent net. The fruit is minimum-sprayed and integrated pest management used; an environmentally-sensitive approach compatible with frogs and worms which frequent the orchard.

Apple juice is squeezed on Friday, giving time for the liquid to clear before being packed and ready to drink on Saturday.

The fruit is seasonal; peaches arrive in December and run to late January, followed by cherries until March. Apples, pears and quinces start in February and are harvested until June.

Five of the heritage pear varieties are only grown commercially by Ashbourne Valley Orchards: the Charles Ernest, Belle, Durondeau, Comice (considered one of Europe’s finest table pears) and Beurre Hardy (juicy sweet and delicately perfumed). They also grow more commonly-known varieties.

Ashbourne Valley Orchards’ white-fleshed heritage peaches are all picked ripe, ready to be eaten within a few days after purchase. These fresh-picked peaches have an unsurpassed flavour and are not available in supermarkets.

Their fanstatic produce includes, when seasonally available  seasonally-fresh apples, pears, quinces, cherries, peaches, plums and fresh apple juice

Ashbourne Valley Orchards also trade at the Adelaide Showground Farmers Market and Willunga Farmers Market

As Sweet As Honey

We are a family owned & operated beekeeping business based in Macclesfield SA. Ben is an Apiarist & manager of the business. Kathryn is the face of the label trading at the AHFM every Saturday. We have two daughters Jozzie & Malana who are the official taste testers of our honey.

We currently have 5 apiaries, which are groups of hives working on seasonal honey flows between Spring & late Autumn. A honey flow is the release of nectar from eucalypts, various ground flora & other native plants at predictable times of the year when they produce flowers. Bees convert this nectar into honey. This is a separate process to the collection of pollen & the pollination services we also provide to almond & lucerne growers is regional SA.

The apiaries are regularly moved from site to site to provide the bees with maximum opportunities to forage. Due to weather conditions, specific honey varieties may be in abundance or limited annually. From season to season the actual colour & flavour of our honey can also vary. However, we aim to provide a true, single origin honey that our customers can rely upon to be available. Having said this, many of our customers have enjoyed the ‘blend of / mixed’ varieties of honey at times in the year when the singular floral varieties have not been available.

The most popular flavours of honey are usually our local Adelaide Hills Bluegum & Cupgum varieties. Another distinctive variety that is rapidly gaining a strong reputation as a honey of choice is our SA Tea- tree, sometimes referred to as jellybush honey. It has been tested & shown to be an active honey which means it naturally contains particular health promoting factors. It is a ‘cousin’ to the well known NZ Manuka honey. We also produce Mallee, Lucerne & Banksia honey. We make a hand churned creamed honey, which is whipped to a smooth consistency & set in the jar. A gourmet vanilla bean creamed honey is another well loved product on our stall. Ben has collected pollen for the last 3 years which is usually available only over the summer months. Beepollen is regarded as a superfood & taken as a very potent health supplement. We also sell pure beeswax blocks & 100% beeswax candles.

We pride ourselves on a consistently high quality product. Our honey is raw honey, which means there is minimal heating during extraction & packing. The warming of all of our honey does not generally exceed the natural temperature that the bees maintain a hive at. Raw, unprocessed honey has a superior taste, contains living enzymes & a multitude of other health enhancing properties. Many of these nutritional benefits are destroyed in honey sold commercially. You may occasionally notice there are small dark specs in our honey; these are not dirt, but bits of wax & natural material from the hive. Our honey is not filtered as this generally requires heating. It is extracted, left to settle overnight, then the ‘bits’ are manually skimmed off by hand with a sieve. Honey, being naturally anti microbial - meaning germs don’t grow in it, never goes off, but it does thicken over time. Our honey will crystallize or candy, which is a sign it is truly unprocessed. It can be easily reverted to runny honey by placing the container in warm water. Some varieties candy more quickly than others.

We have purpose built premises on our property which houses the automated, stainless steel extraction equipment & our packing facility. There are no chemicals, antibiotics or additives used in our hive management or the extraction process of our honey. We are a Beequal accredited business. This is an annually auditored national food standards QA programme.

You will find As Sweet as Honey at the Mt Barker Adelaide Hills Farmers Market every Saturday morning between 8.30-12.30. Please drop in for a free taste of local honey & thank you for supporting our Farmers’ market. We welcome any enquiries on 0407950876- Kathryn.

Bald Hills Olive Grove

We have 2 styles of Extra Virgin Olive Oil: Bald Hills Olive Oil has a fresh grassy, flavour with a peppery finish and is made from Tuscan varieties of olive trees mostly from the Frantoio family; and the High Grove has a fruity, nutty flavour with a hint of pepper that comes from a mixture of Greek and Italian varieties.  The fruit for this oil comes from groves on Bald Hills Road, Mt Barker and the Balhannah district.

We also carry plain and chilli table olives, balsamic vinegar and dukka and za’ahtar. The High Grove Kalamata table olives are firm and not too salty, although the chilli and herb table olives have a little fire.  The Balsamic vinegar, fragrant dukka and zesty za’ahtar go well with the extra virgin olive oils and fresh bread. We also sell 3 kinds of hay in small squares and small and large round bales of Lucerne, Oaten / Lucerne and Pasture Hay and bags of firewood. Delivery is available.

Bald Hills Olive Grove sits on 33 acres of picturesque agricultural land to the north of Mt Barker on Bald Hills Road.  Our family bought the land in 1986 on a whim; the acres of rolling hills were too enticing to pass up.  It is great to be part of an emerging industry with lots of potential and friendly people.  Olives and extra virgin olive oil are part of a healthy Mediterranean diet but Australia wasn’t supplying its own people.  Unlike other mono-unsaturated oils, extra virgin olive oil doesn’t require solvents to extract it.  It’s a buzz to know our oil is adding to our customer’s health while they enjoy the flavour.

This family business is growing from a small plot that supplied friends, to one that can offer good oil to our local and wider community. The land now supports 680 Frantoio family (Corregiola, Paragon) and Pendolino olive trees.  They were selected because they cope with the frosts in Northern Italy, and which we occasionally get in the beautiful Adelaide Hills. The trees were planted in 1998 with the help of friends and family.  Our first harvest was of 23 berries in 2002.   The volume has steadily increased since then, thankfully!  Until 2009 the fruit has been harvested by hand, onto mats which we lay under the trees.  In 2009 the majority were harvested with a shaker.

The High Grove Extra Virgin Olive Oil comes from the 3000 olive trees on the southern side of the valley combined with fruit from other hills growers and is widely distributed throughout the Hills and in Adelaide.

Roasted On coffee & granola
Roasted On is a family owned business that specialises in providing super fresh coffee and granola. We are based in the Adelaide Hills and are lucky to be able to roast with a stunning backdrop of the bush. Combined with the smell of roasting coffee and granola, it’s a tough job, but someone has to do it.

We love the challenge of getting high-quality coffee and granola to you quickly so you can taste it fresh. Busy cafes have always had this advantage with their high volume and frequent deliveries. Our mission is for you to be able to recreate that cafe experience in your own home.

Selling online allows us to reach more people. However one of the most rewarding parts of our business is setting up our stall at the Adelaide Hills Farmers Market each month to do coffee tastings and chat with the locals. We love our regular farmers market customers. As well as supporting local businesses, they are passionate about quality food, have a strong sense of community and they inspire us to keep putting up the tent on those freezing, rainy mornings!

DJ Citrus
DJ Citrus

It is an all family affair at DJs Garden Fresh Citrus; the business depends on the support of our whole family.

Daughter, Julie is DJ’s ever-available graphic designer, and she has a real flair for baking and has developed their citrus gourmet collection.

Her specialty is creating a variety of fine biscuits, small cakes and sweet treats with a citrus influence using our fresh citrus fruit.

ldest daughter, Tanya, has added to our citrus gourmet products by creating the citrus cake truffles on a stick - something fun for the young at heart.

Son, Darren, and his wife, Nicola and Tanya's husband, Todd are also a  fantastic help in preparing the various fruit packs, loading vehicles for market and being available to run the stall on market days.

The family property based in Nildottie was previously owned by Joy’s parents, and since 1995; the next family generation purchased it and operates it today.

The 7.5 acre orchard has some 60 year old trees, with some new varieties being planted as the older trees finish.  New varieties such as Lemonade trees, ruby grapefruit and blood fruit trees make for an interesting new mix to the orchard.

 'Our Produce'
'Salad Greens and Kitchen herbs' strives for the freshest produce possible.
Produce is delivered 6 days a week and the family trades at farmer's markets in Wayville, Willunga, Mt. Barker and Prospect during the week and on weekends.
Like most farmers the family  and 'Salad Greens and Kitchen herbs' faced some tough financial times and Sven and Judith had to be creative to survive.
trading at varios farmers market,  having many loyal customers all over Adelaide, beeing passionate about growing  and supplying healthy  vegetables the  Zehles knew they had needed to expand the variety of crops they  found  some niche market produce and customers who appreciate how the family grows, where they are situated and what the name 'Salad Greens and Kitchen herbs' has been standing for over 20 years now, that is quality, purity and service.
Trials of growing carrots, beetroot and turnips organically in the ground were made and all grew beautiful,  It was easy enough to sell all quickly as well. The   demand is high for fresh local organic produce. Now the family grows many vegetables including Kale, Springonion Rhubarb, Spinach, Beans and garlic, Carrots, Beetroot. Certification of these vegetables will be happening in the near future.Today the deliveries are expanding from the city, surrounding suburbs, to the Adelaide Hills and the  Fleurieu peninsula. All this is only possible with help of dedicated volunteers, who come from all over the world and help with almost all aspects of the farm operations, volunteers are members of the 'wwoof' or helpx initiate.
Our growing practices:
Lettuces, potted herbs and bocchoy are grown hydroponically, with minimal spray practices for the lettuces during winter time and no sprays[ pesticides, herbicides]  for the herbs at all.  a well balanced variety of nutrients are used, including mineral salts, BFA certified Kelp solutions and fulvic acid. Unlike many hydroponic growers they do not overfeed the plants; the difference is noticeable in shelf life and taste, and being commented on often.

The eggs used are from our chooks and sometimes the veges are from our patch. My partner Janelle and I hail from Macclesfield and are looking forward to joining the Adelaide Hills Farmers Market community.

Homestead Lovers

Homestead Lovers attend the Adelaide Hills Farmers Market on the 4th Saturday of the month.

Dehydrating is the worlds oldest form of food preservation, it requires no preservatives and it yields great tasting food with months and even years of shelf life.
Dried food takes less than one sixth of their original storage space, takes care of any excess fresh foods and ensures you have plenty of produce in the off seasons.
Because we pride ourselves on knowing exactly what goes into our dried creations we source most of our fresh and chemical free produce from farmers markets and what we can't find there we will research and find a South Australian product of equal quality.
Our meals, snack, soups and other powdered mixes are portable so you can easily bring real and natural food with you where ever you go, for work, camping, hiking, in the motor home or on the house boat!

Dehydrating natural food reduces waste and only takes water to reconstitute into a delicious meal or snack.

Mum, Joy’s contribution is the lemon infused jams and sauces, citrus marmalades and variety of citrus cakes and loaves. And, by customer request, she has also included several gluten-free baked products as well.

Father, Dave takes care of the freshly squeezed, 100% pure orange juice, which is prepared and chilled the night before the market.

Selling their fresh orange product range, along with the freshly squeezed orange juice, the DJs citrus stall is very popular with orange lovers. The varieties of oranges include Navels, Valencia, and mandarins, Imperials, Grapefruit, Limes and Tangellos.

DJ’s also do a range of dried apricots and dried pears.

The whole family at DJ’s is very passionate about growing quality citrus in their family orchard,  and are delighted to have the opportunity to bring fresh from the orchard direct to the local community at the weekly farmer's market.
